Export and Buyer Compliance in Bangladesh

Keep every shipment moving: export licences and documents in order, origin rules met for duty-free access, and buyer codes of conduct, audits and traceability evidence ready before your customer asks.

Definition

What Is Export and Buyer Compliance?

Export and buyer compliance is meeting two sets of rules at once: the Bangladesh government’s export requirements, such as the Export Registration Certificate, EXP form, customs filing and certificate of origin, and the standards your foreign buyers set on labour, safety, chemicals and supply chain traceability.

Miss the first and the shipment does not leave Chattogram. Miss the second and the buyer stops placing orders, often without saying why.

Who needs it

  • 1Garment, textile and leather exporters
  • 2Foreign buyers sourcing from Bangladesh
  • 3New exporters setting up their first shipments

What the LDC Graduation Delay Means for Exporters

The deadline moved. The direction did not. Use the extra time to build the compliance record buyers and the EU will ask for.

Bangladesh's LDC graduation moved to 2029

On 30 October 2026 the UN General Assembly gave Bangladesh three more years before it leaves least developed country status. Duty-free LDC access continues until then, but the clock has not stopped.

  • The EU's rules give graduating countries a further three-year transition under Everything But Arms before LDC preferences end.
  • Keeping duty-free access to the EU after that means qualifying for GSP+, which under the current scheme requires ratifying and implementing 27 international conventions on labour, human rights, environment and governance.
  • Stricter rules of origin and buyer due diligence will matter more, not less, as preferences narrow.

What buyers check

How Foreign Buyers Score Bangladesh Suppliers

Brands rarely rely on one certificate. They build a picture from social audits, safety programmes, environmental data, chemical management, product certifications and, increasingly, proof of where the fibre came from.

We help you see the card the way the buyer sees it, then close the weakest subjects first.

Where suppliers usually lose marks

  • 1Out-of-date audit reports and open findings
  • 2No evidence of cotton or yarn origin
  • 3Subcontractors the buyer was never told about

Most buyers score suppliers this way, even if they never show you the card. A single weak subject can cost an order.

Rules on the horizon

Foreign Laws That Reach Bangladesh Factories

These laws bind your buyers, and your buyers pass the duty down to you. The closer to the centre, the sooner it bites.

FAQs

Export and Buyer Compliance: FAQs

It is meeting the government’s rules for exporting: holding a valid Export Registration Certificate, filing the EXP form through your bank, lodging the Bill of Export with customs, providing a certificate of origin where needed and bringing the export proceeds home within the time Bangladesh Bank sets.

Buyer compliance is meeting the standards your foreign customers set for their suppliers, such as their code of conduct, social and safety audits, environmental and chemical requirements, product certifications and proof of where materials came from.

On 30 October 2026 the UN General Assembly deferred Bangladesh’s graduation by three years, to 24 November 2029. LDC trade benefits continue until then, and the EU gives graduating countries a further three-year transition under Everything But Arms.

GSP+ is the EU scheme that can keep tariffs low after LDC preferences end. To qualify under the current scheme, a country must ratify and effectively implement 27 international conventions on labour rights, human rights, environment and good governance.

From 14 December 2027, products made with forced labour cannot be placed on or exported from the EU market, whatever the sector. EU buyers will ask suppliers for evidence on recruitment, wages, working hours and the origin of inputs.

It can. Since June 2022 the US presumes that goods made wholly or partly in Xinjiang involve forced labour. Garments made in Bangladesh with Xinjiang cotton can be detained, so US buyers ask for cotton and yarn traceability.

Common social programmes include amfori BSCI, WRAP, Sedex SMETA and SLCP assessments, alongside building and fire safety under the RMG Sustainability Council or the International Accord, and Higg tools for environmental performance.

Yes. We help with the Export Registration Certificate, bank and customs paperwork, origin documents, a buyer-ready compliance file and preparation for the first social audit, so the first shipment and the first buyer review go smoothly.
