Definition

What Is Health and Drug Screening?

Health and drug screening is a pre-employment check in which a registered doctor confirms that a candidate is medically fit for the role, and a urine test checks for common drugs. The employer receives a fit-for-work result, not the full medical record.

It is often used for drivers, security guards, factory and warehouse staff, and anyone in a safety-critical role. For drivers and field staff, it pairs well with blue-collar worker screening.

When a Dope Test Is Already Required in Bangladesh

Government jobs and professional driving licences already need a dope test. Many private employers now ask for one too.

Long queues

The government hospital fee was fixed at Tk 900, but only a few hospitals did the test. NITOR could test 15 samples a day, and some applicants waited months.

For most private-sector roles, testing is the employer's own policy. We run it the same way for every candidate, with consent.

Results and privacy

What the Employer Sees, and What Stays Private

Health data is sensitive. The employer gets the result it needs to decide: fit, fit with restrictions, or unfit, plus the dope test result. Detailed lab values go to the candidate.

If a dope test screen is not negative, we do not report it straight away. The sample is re-tested by a confirmation method, and the doctor first checks any prescribed medicines the candidate has declared.

FAQs

Health and Drug Screening: FAQs

What is health and drug screening?

Health and drug screening is a pre-employment check in which a registered doctor confirms that a candidate is medically fit for the role, and a urine test checks for common drugs. The employer receives a fit-for-work result, not the full medical record.

How much does health and drug screening cost in Bangladesh?

BPO Bangladesh charges USD $119 per candidate. This covers a doctor’s medical exam, blood pressure and vision, CBC, random blood sugar, urine routine test, chest X-ray, a 5-panel urine dope test and a fit-for-work report.

Is a dope test mandatory for jobs in Bangladesh?

News reports say dope tests are required for government job applicants and for professional driving licences, based on the Narcotics Control Act 2018. For most private-sector roles, it is the employer’s own policy, applied with the candidate’s consent.

Which drugs does the dope test cover?

Our 5-panel urine test covers amphetamines including methamphetamine (yaba), cannabis, opiates including heroin and codeine, benzodiazepines and barbiturates. Other panels can be quoted for specific roles.

What happens if a dope test is not negative?

We do not report a first screen straight away. The sample is re-tested by a confirmation method, and the doctor checks any prescribed medicines the candidate declared. Only the confirmed result goes to the employer.

Will the employer see the candidate’s full medical results?

No. The employer sees fit, fit with restrictions or unfit, and the dope test result. Detailed lab values stay with the candidate unless the candidate agrees to share them.

How long does health and drug screening take?

Usually 2 to 4 working days after the candidate’s visit. A confirmation re-test can add a few days.

Do you need the candidate’s consent?

Yes. Health data is sensitive, so we need signed consent before any test. Bangladesh’s Personal Data Protection Ordinance, 2025 requires informed and explicit consent before personal data is processed.
