Definition
What Is a Credit Background Check?
A credit background check looks at a candidate’s financial record, such as unpaid loans, wilful defaulter status, money loan court cases and cheque dishonour cases, to judge the risk of giving them responsibility for money. In Bangladesh it is done only with the candidate’s written consent.
It is not a credit score. It is a set of facts you weigh against the role. For criminal and civil cases beyond money matters, see the criminal and court record check.

Why it matters
Why Finance Roles Need a Credit Check in Bangladesh
Loan defaults and bounced cheques are common. A candidate under heavy debt pressure is a higher risk in a role that handles cash or payments.

Six Records in Every Credit Background Check
We open the same six drawers for every candidate and report what each one shows, with the source and date.
We report facts, you make the decision. A single old default does not mean a bad hire. Give the candidate a chance to explain before you decide.
What we need from you
- 1The candidate's signed consent for a credit check
- 2NID and addresses for the last 5 years
- 3The candidate's own list of current loans

Who it is for
Roles That Need a Credit Background Check
Credit checks are fair and useful only when the role gives someone access to money, payments or signing authority.
Run a credit check only where money is part of the job. For other roles, an employment history check and reference checks are usually enough.
Pricing

Market reference: in the US, Checkr lists a pre-employment credit report from USD $8 per check, pulled from a credit bureau database. Bangladesh has no such employer feed yet, and court searches are done by hand in each district, which is why the price is higher. Screening a team? See bulk screening.

FAQs
Credit Background Check: FAQs
What is a credit background check?
A credit background check looks at a candidate’s financial record, such as unpaid loans, wilful defaulter status, money loan court cases and cheque dishonour cases, to judge the risk of giving them responsibility for money. In Bangladesh it is done only with the candidate’s written consent.
How much does a credit background check cost in Bangladesh?
BPO Bangladesh charges USD $139 per candidate. This covers credit information obtained with consent, a wilful defaulter list check, money loan court and cheque dishonour case searches, an RJSC directorship check and a written report.
Can an employer see a candidate’s CIB report in Bangladesh?
Not directly. Bangladesh Bank’s Credit Information Bureau shares data with banks and financial institutions. Licensed private credit bureaus may collect it with the borrower’s permission. We obtain credit information only with the candidate’s written consent, through a permitted channel.
Is there a credit score for job candidates in Bangladesh?
No. Bangladesh has no consumer credit score used for hiring. A credit background check gives you facts, such as defaults and court cases, rather than a single number.
What is a wilful defaulter?
A wilful defaulter is a borrower whom a bank has formally identified as able to repay but choosing not to, under the Bank Company (Amendment) Act 2023. They can face travel and trade licence bans and cannot sit on a bank or financial institution board for five years after repaying.
Should a bad credit record stop a hire?
Not on its own. We report facts, and you decide. Look at how old the issue is, whether it was settled, and whether the role involves money. Give the candidate a chance to explain before deciding.
How long does a credit background check take?
Usually 5 to 7 working days. Searching courts in more districts can add time.
Do you need the candidate’s consent?
Yes, always. Financial data is personal data, and Bangladesh’s Personal Data Protection Ordinance, 2025 requires informed and explicit consent before personal data is processed.
